Attorney and Disability Rights Advocate Brandon Rowenhorst Featured in Minot Daily News
Brandon Rowenhorst of Rowenhorst Law was featured in the Minot Daily News after being selected by Independence Inc., an advocacy agency for disabled individuals, for its Advocate of the Year Award. Rowenhorst, who handles an expansive range of practices areas, fought to improve transportation for those with disabilities, leading to a city ordinance that required taxi companies to provide wheelchair-accessible cab service.
Rowenhorst’s aim was not to achieve visibility or any accolades, but rather to create awareness and access to services. As someone who uses a wheelchair, he understands the challenges that people with disabilities face, having experienced the lack of accommodation for wheelchair users. Rowenhorst believes that society is not ill-intentioned, but rather lacks awareness and is simply in need of adaptive thinking.
“When I see a problem, I am not just going to stop at focusing on the problem. I am going to look at what are the possible, different solutions,” Rowenhorst said.
While Rowenhorst primarily focuses on criminal defense and family law, he was previously involved in estate planning, wills, living wills and probates. He is also deeply involved in his community. He has been advocating for a therapeutic horse riding program for the elderly and physically disabled. Rowenhorst suffers from cerebral palsy and participates in such programs, which he believes benefited him greatly.
